A Community United

Each year, the Canadian International School community participates in a Terry Fox run to raise funds for cancer research. This year, at the school’s Tanjong Katong campus, students, parents and staff were out on the field on the morning of January 20 prepared to run - showing their support for the fight against cancer. School spirit and pride was evident as younger participants along the side lines, not content to simply cheer while waiting for their turn to run, jumped up and held out their hands for hi-fives as older runners passed by.

The Terry Fox Run is just one of many community outreach and service initiatives that students can participate in at the Canadian International School, and provides students with the opportunity to understand their individual responsibilities to society.

As part of our trans-disciplinary curriculum, community outreach and service plays an important part in fostering the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile – the core of all IB programmes. Engaging students in community service projects is a wonderful way of encouraging our students to be principled, caring and open minded. We know that learning outside the classroom and helping others is an important part of becoming responsible and well balanced global citizens.
