Canadian International School Grade 7 Student, Eli Ramraj, Publishes First Novel

By Eli Ramraj

Eli Meadow Ramraj, a student at the Canadian International School, is twelve years old and has been writing since the age of nine. Black Amber is his third novel, and the start of a new trilogy called  The Elrolian Hunter. He writes everywhere – usually at home on his bed, but also on the school bus, where he can look out the window and create new ideas.

Eli gets ideas from all sorts of situations: in school, on vacation, and at home when someone says something to spark his interest, such as debates over the order a stack of magazines should go in – latest issue at the top, or bottom? He writes down all his ideas for characters and events in one document, and is easily able to pull them out when in need.

The inspiration for his latest novel is his passion for animals and wildlife, and how humans’ actions affect them. He has also gathered inspiration from all sorts of authors such as J.K Rowling and Arthur Conan Doyle. When he was two years old, he was given a Dorling Kindersley handbook of mammals, and that has been one of the most-used and most-loved books in his house, and an important resource in his research on animals.

Black Amber is a fantasy–adventure novel that takes place in a futuristic location over one thousand metres above earth. Eli likes to write stories with characters and situations to which readers can easily relate even in settings that are nothing like the world we live in now. He writes for a hobby, and loves being able to express ideas to the community through the means of a book.
