Terry Fox Run at CIS - TK

In January, 2012 on a sunny Singapore morning, the community from the Canadian international school Tanjong Katong (TK) campus ran with a purpose - to raise funds for cancer research in Singapore and to keep the memory of Canadian hero Terry Fox alive.

Everyone turned out in grey Terry Fox shirts - the efforts of our students were supported by staff, the Parent and Teachers association, and parents. From Junior Kindergarten to Grade 10, boys and girls slapped on some sun screen and ran with their peers under the hot Singapore sun.

The camaraderie of the community was evident. Parents were cheering their children on, students who had finished the run cheered for those still running as they strove to run as many laps of the field as possible. The staff room on campus was filled with a citrus scent early that morning, probably due to the thousands of oranges being sliced and bagged by parent volunteers - these succulent orange wedges were gratefully received by the exhausted runners as they completed their run.

The runners efforts were well rewarded - students raised a remarkable total of $34,700 which was donated to cancer research. This money was combined with the total from the Terry Fox Singapore run, with the cheque being presented to Jack Gray, chairman of that event.
